RYDE School with Upper Chine's sailing teams represented the Isle off Wight in style — earning podium pride in the RYA Schools’ Match Racing Championships.

At Weymouth, the Island school competed against other top schools — coming away with gold and silver overall.

The teams, which raced in Elliot 6m keelboats, faced opponents from Royal Hospital School, Guildford, Sevenoaks School and Harrington School, Rutland, and, at the end of the first day, both Ryde teams represented the only school to have won all their respective races.

Winds had been fairly light, with the day topped off by a friendly visit from a local dolphin!

Mixed weather conditions — high winds and intermittent rainfall — on the following two days meant racing was hampered.

With continued effort and skill, Ryde ended up taking the two final team places in a nail-biting all Ryde final.

Ryde's Team Black won, with Team Red finishing second to take not only the title, but also the NSSA Trophy.

Claudia Manser, Ryde's director of sailing, was delighted with the result, saying: "Brilliant sailing performances by both teams! It was amazing to come away from the event as winners and runner-up."
