A DOZEN Ryde Harriers joined a field of over 1,200 runners to face the gusty conditions with gusto at the Gosport Half Marathon.

Traditionally a fast-paced course, this year's two-lap circuit tested the mettle of its competitors with bracing seafront headwinds.

Buoyed by the crowds along the route, the Harriers got their heads down — reaping the rewards of their early hard miles with a speedy downwind home strait.

Fastest Harrier to the finish was Keaan Amin in 1hr 23mins 8secs, closely followed by men's team captain, Trevor McAlister (1.28.59), while ladies' captain, Natalie Rose, led the ladies' female Harriers, finishing the gruelling course in an impressive 1.58.40.

Martin Dyer (1.42.02), Lizzy Galbraith (2.03.41) and Sam Johnson (2.29.41) all celebrated new half marathon PBs.

The Harriers' next Hampshire Road Race League outing will be the Victory 5 mile on Sunday, December 3.

Preparations are also under way for the club to host their own annual ten-mile event on February 4 next year.
