Cowes Sports are through to the next round of the Wessex League Cup after thrashing league leaders Moneyfields at Westwood Park.

This evening's match was expected to be a closely-fought contest, but it proved to be anything but.

The Yachtsmen came into the game off the back of a 4-1 league defeat at high-flying Shaftesbury United at the weekend.

Clearly looking to make amends tonight, they got off to an incredibly quick start.

Goals from Scott McFarlane, Finley Phillips and Jordan Cooke ensured they were 3-0 with just 13 minutes on the clock.

From then on, it was plain sailing for the home side.

McFarlane added his second and his team's fourth in 20th minute, before captain John McKie made it 5-0 at the break.

McFarlane added a sixth just a minute after half-time to claim his hattrick.

With the result all but secured, manager Max Draper made a flurry of changes, including taking hattrick hero McFarlane off.

Moneyfields scored a consolation late on.

Final result: Cowes Sport 6-1 Moneyfields.
