There were some hammerings in the world of Isle of Wight table tennis this week.

In Division 1, Ryde C are heading the table after four matches, with last year’s champions, Ryde A in second place.

The C team made short work of Newport Vics B, giving them a 10-0 hammering, while the A team won 9-1 against Ryde Reprobates, with only the Reprobate’s Tom Johnson winning a game.

The match between Ryde B and Ryde Goshawks was a much closer affair with
some long and exciting games, the best being between juniors Ethan Millward and Zak Holbrook which culminated in a victory for the B team’s Millward in the fifth set.

However, the Goshawks took the match 6-4, with Ricky Lock unbeaten in his singles games and in the doubles in partnership with Holbrook.

In Division 2, Newport Vics C continued their strong start to the season with an easy win over Ryde Rascals, who were last year’s runners up.

Newport’s Lawrence Fo is unbeaten so far, along with Ryde Rocket’s Trevor Percival, whose team lies in second place.

Ryde Revellers enjoyed an emphatic win over Ryde Lizards, winning 8-2, with the
Revellers' Gourav Shah player of the match.

However, the experience of the Lizard’s Derek Pittard and Tom Flood saw them take a fine doubles win.

In Division  3, owing to some cancelled matches, only one match took place, which culminated in a closely contested 6-4 win for Shorwell Spinners against Ryde Rustics.
