SUPER sub Brad Young was the hero as East Cowes Vics pulled off the result of the day — beating high-flying Fleetlands with a 96th minute winner.

Vectis certainly achieved that distinction in Division 1 of the Island League away at runaway leaders W&B.

In a game lacking in any real quality, looking for all the world the Division 1 Wessex match would end in a stalemate, all the drama unfolded deep into injury time when up popped Vics striker Young with a superb finish to take all three points.

Some great work down the left saw Harrison Yates pull a quality ball back across the Fleetlands box, the ball sat up for the onrushing Young, but he took a touch inside and hit an unstoppable shot into the corner from the edge of the box.

In the Wessex Premier League, Cowes Sports continued their inconsistent recent form with a 2-1 loss against struggling Petersfield Town.

There was a feelgood factor around Westwood when Connor Kelly cut inside and fired low into the corner from distance in the eighth minute.

But George Colson, given his marching orders for a second bookable offence, began the Yachtsmen's downfall, with Ryan Oatley heading an own goal and a Petersfield strike in the 69th minute sealing it.

In Wessex Division 1, Newport's miserable run of results continued with a 4-2 loss at third-placed Alresford Town.

Despite the loss, Port played well for much of the game.

The hosts took the lead, but Joe Butcher buried it to level — a really well worked goal thanks to great build up play by Harry Taylor and Sonny Myram.

In the second half, Jordan Brown deservedly put Port in front, but Alresford were awarded a dubious penalty, which Leon Pitman — who had already pulled off numerous saves — pushed away superbly.

However, despite Alresford being reduced to ten men for a bad challenge on Port skipper Martin McDonough, Alresford levelled and, when Taylor was sin-binned, there was only one winner.

East Cowes Vics Reserves remain top of Division 1 of the Hants Combination and Development League after beating Bournemouth Poppies Reserves 5-0.

In Division 1 of the Island League, Vectis pulled off the result of the day, coming away from W&B's Sandy Lane fortress with an incredible 3-3 draw.

With West Wight coming away from a tough match at Ventnor 2-1 winners, it has reduced the gap to three points, with a two-horse race already developing after Cowes Sports Reserves, on a poor run, losing 3-1 at bottom side High Park, who moved up a place after their second win on the bounce

Tomorrow (Sunday), in Division 1 of the Hampshire County Women’s League, Shanklin Ladies have a chance to move into the top half of the table away at Varsity.

In the first round of the County Women's Trophy, Division 2's top and bottom sides meet at Cowes, who will have their work cut out for them.

The Wight Eagles Ladies will feel confident of easing through against struggling fellow Division 3 outfit, Rushmoor Community.
