THE final weekend for Redwings and One-Design racing for 2023 enjoyed the season's best conditions, with sunshine and F3 breezes.

It was therefore a pity there were not more competitors, although seven Redwings and nine One-Designs on Sunday was better than in previous years.

Two hour-long races for both classes on Saturday and a two-hour race on Sunday, was a great way to finish a rather mixed season.

In the first Redwing race, other racers failed to spot Serena Gosling (Gosling) power through on the penultimate leg to win.

In the second race, early front runner Matt Alexander (Harlequin) established a big lead which they kept to the finish.

In the opening One-Design race, a mistake allowed Alexander Ross (No.8) into the lead, beating Jos Coad (No.11) by two seconds.

In a more expansive race across the Bembridge, Coad put in a 200-yard tack and overtook the entire fleet to win easily.

On Sunday, some of the best racing all season was seen.

The Redwings race was a real, battle, which saw the lead change hands a few times before Alexander (Harlequin) won by nearly two minutes ahead of Colin Samuelson (Toucan).

From a fleet of five One-Designs, Mark Grzegorczyk, sailing single-handed in No.9, comfortably held his lead to the finish, on a long course that took 2hrs 10mins to complete
