THERE were some understandable nerves ahead of the sixth and final round of the 2023 WKRKC Summer Series, but the leader going into it, Jack Goring, held his nerve and karted well to secure the title.

Starting the day at the top of the table, knowing he just needed nine points to win the championship, Goring knew the only racer he was looking over his shoulder at was Dale Hunt.

Hunt, the only driver who could possibly overtake him, was looking over his own shoulder hoping Harvey Yates, only six points adrift, did not hit top form.

As always, the racing was incredibly close and tense to watch, with each heat won by a different driver.

Overall, James Dziuba took first place bragging rights with a score of 31.

Hunt got his runner up spot in the championship after all by coming second overall, with 25.

But Goring raced with precision and a decisive edge to make overtakes look easy throughout the series, said one of the race organisers.

WKRKC is now poised to start its Winter Series, which gets underway on October 13, featuring six rounds, with the final round set for March.

The event will also move towards a two-class championship, of lightweight and middleweight divisions.

"This promises to be a close and competitive series, in this expanding and popular championship," race organisers added.
