AS MOST managers would say, league form goes 'out the window' for cup ties, but East Cowes Vics fans will believe their side have a more than fair chance of progressing into the third round of the Hampshire Senior Cup tonight (Wednesday).

Playing at Beatrice Avenue, Vics entertain fellow Wessex League Division 1 side Whitchurch United.

East Cowes Vics have got off to a flying start, sitting in sixth with games in hand over most of the sides above them, while Whitchurch lie in 17th, having shipped 24 goals in their seven games so far.

Both teams dispatched Premier League opponents in the first round to set up the tie, which is expected to draw a decent midweek crowd.

Vics captain, Callum Chase, who is serving a suspension, believes it will be a tough, but winnable tie.

"It gives us a great opportunity to reach the third round — and potentially get a big team, like Cowes have done," he told the County Press.

"Having a cup run can help us build momentum — and who knows how far we could go.

"We know it won’t be an easy task with Whitchurch. They have proved they have quality by beating Blackfield and Langley in the first round.

"We know it’s a game we know we must work hard in, as well as play a style of play the gaffer has drilled into us.

"I’m confident if we do this and be in the hat for the next round."

Kick off is at 7.15pm.
