Following on from success at the London Triathlon last month, two Isle of Wight athletes returned to Dorney Lake to, once again, bring glory back to the Island.

Laura and Nick Curwood competed at the Arctic One Para Triathlon Festival at the iconic Olympic rowing lake, taking part in their own individual super sprint races, with a fun relay capping off the day.

Nick’s wave, the able-bodied super spring athletes, was the first of the day.

Upon entering the lake, he took off onto the swim and was first out of the water, with a 400m swim time of seven minutes and 33 seconds.

Whilst his fellow athletes were still emerging from the water, Nick was carving out an elite performance on the bike and completed the 10k course in 16 minutes.

The final leg of the race took him out onto the 2.5k run in record time, with a run time of 10 minutes, not only achieving his PB by almost three minutes but also claiming first place in his wave, an astonishing 20 minutes ahead of second place!

Laura went off next in the para super sprint wave, smashing her way through the water in seven minutes and, again, being the first competitor out of the water into transition.

Well ahead of her nearest competitor, Laura took on the 10k bike course before a speedy transition and the 2.5k run. Nine minutes and ten seconds later, Laura finished first place.

The day was not over, as Laura and Nick took part in the replay race, with Laura taking care of the swim and the run and Nick handling the bike.

Laura was first out of the water, and Nick obliterated his bike challengers by a considerable distance.

However, owing to being misdirected on the new course by a marshal, Laura ended up running well over 2k instead of the intended 1.5k.

Nevertheless, upon recovering, she put on an extreme burst of speed, ensuring that the Curwood Cartel placed in second and only 20 seconds behind the first team.
