Talented disabled swimmer Zac Lacey from the Isle of Wight has secured several medals at the 2023 European Down Syndrome Swimming Championships.

Zac has been competing alongside 89 swimmers from 13 countries in the four-day Championships held in Padova, Italy.

The 22-year-old reached the final Men’s T21 200m Butterfly, starting his Championships in style.

In the final, Zac broke free from the pack and pulled away by a sizable margin to take his first gold at the Championships.

Teaming up with British swimmers Amalia Freeland, Helen Thompson and Mark Evens, Zac won another gold in the Mixed 4x100m Medley Relay.

Not finished there, Zac once again teamed up with Mark, this time alongside Dylan Williams and Will Reed, to take silver in the Men’s 4x100m Medley Relay.

Yesterday (September 8), Zac teamed up again to win a hard-fought silver medal in the 4x200m Freestyle Relay.

So far, Team GB lead the points tally with 506, well ahead of hosts Italy on 336 and third-placed Portugal on 320.

Zac has won two gold and three silver medals, contributing to Team GB’s 40 medals (16 gold, 11 silver and 13 bronze) as the competition moves into its final day (Saturday, September 9).
