ROUND five of the WKRKC summer series was a sellout event, as a full grid of 12 drivers competed for top spot over three 15-lap heats.

This round saw racing on a reverse track layout and it was an incredibly tense and close affair.

Just ten seconds separated the top ten drivers in each heat.

One small mistake, and driver in the lead could see themselves drop nine places.

Harvey Yates clinched first place, becoming the first driver in four rounds to be beat Jack Goring to top spot.

He took well-deserved third and second place finishes in his meaningful heats, racking up 27pts.

In second place was Jack, who accumulated 25pts with a second and third place finish, as well as the fastest lap bonus.

Youngster Raff Mitchel rounded off the top three on 23pts, taking a win in heat one.

“Raff is continuing to show good race craft, and is testament to the young driver program we run here,” said a spokesperson for Wight Karting.

“The racing was so close this round, that just eight points separated the top eight drivers in the final order.

“One position gained or lost would make all the difference.

“A special mention must go to Thomas Edgson; another of the Junior Track Day graduates who managed to keep experienced racers behind him in the final heat to take his first heat win.”

The final round of the summer series takes place on September 6, at 5.50pm.

“This is highly likely to be another sell out event, so booking early is strongly advised,” said a spokesperson for Wight Karting.

“Anyone can come along to spectate what is sure to be another very close race.”
