AFTER taking two race wins Jack Goring came out on top after a rip-roaring Round 4 of the Wight Karting Rental Kart Championship (WKRKC) — and on a slippery track — to put himself in pole position for the title.

In what turned out to be another sell-out event, the weather was wet and windy as a full grid of 12 drivers competed for top spot over the three to 15-lap heats.

The conditions proved to be a tough test of the drivers' abilities in handling the karts on a difficult race surface.

As always, each race saw thrills and a few spills, with bumper-to-bumper racing throughout the field, with each driver trying to maximise their finishing positions for those all-important race points.

Goring again looked dominant, gaining 36 points after he took two race wins from his meaningful heats — event managing to convert a last place start into a win in his first heat.

Mike Jolliffe, affectionately nicknamed Moke, came second, hot on Goring's heels with 31 points, following his pair of second place finishes, plus a fastest lap bonus point in his first heat.

Simon Johnstone came in third, taking a second and fourth place finish in his meaningful heats.

After four rounds, it means Goring has extended his lead at the top with two race meetings to go in the Summer Series.

Special mention goes to all of the young drivers who raced — part of the organisers' driver training programme.

Jolliffe, a WKRKC spokesman, said: "The wet conditions provide a real test to anyone, but once you master driving in the wet, you can master any condition."

Round 5 will be on August 11, running on the reverse track layout.

"This will highly likely be another sell-out event, so booking early is strongly advised," Jolliffe added.
