ISLAND Games discus medal hopeful for the Isle of Wight, Naomi Holdsworth, represented Hampshire Schools at the English Schools' Athletic Association Track and Field Championships — the world's fourth largest athletics event.

It proved invaluable preparation for the Year 13 Christ the King College student ahead of the games in Guernsey.

This year, the championships were held at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, the venue for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Naomi, coached by British discus champion, Nick Percy, of Bonchurch, was thrilled to win her place in the senior girls' discus event, thanks to her performance in the Hampshire Schools’ Championships last month.

This was the third year in a row Naomi has competed for Hampshire Schools at this national event.

This year, competing against the best discus throwers from across England, Naomi finished in a creditable fifth.
