SHANKLIN-Sandown Rowing Club took crews to Nottingham at the weekend to represent the Wessex region at the Junior Inter Regional Regatta — and did it with pride.

The club’s J15 double scull, of Carter Horrix and Louis Sheasby, secured top spot — the region's only medallists — with a superb row, leading from the front, in the final.

The crew set the fastest time in the heats — attacking their closest challengers to win the final by three lengths.

It was the crew’s second successive gold at these championships, having won at J14 level last year.

Beth Katirewa was part of a composite crew with Coalporters Rowing Club, Southampton, to secure the B final win in the girls' J16 coxless quads event.

The club's J14 girls' quad athletes rowed well too, gaining valuable experience from this type of racing — competing in a multi-lane event for the first time.
