COWES Sports secured Wessex League Premier status for another season — and will want to end their season on a high in their final home game against promotion-chasing Stoneham, a side lying third, at Westwood Park tonight (Tuesday).

After another difficult season battling in the lower reaches of the division, the Yachtsmen beat the drop yet again following vital back-to-back victories against second bottom Pagham and mid-table Shaftesbury.

Whatever the outcome this evening, Cowes, sitting in 14th, have secured yet another season in the Premier and face fifth-placed Moneyfields away on Saturday in their final game.

In Division 1 of the Wessex League, Newport — who blew their automatic promotion hopes with a heavy defeat at champions Andover New Street — will hope to regain some form ahead of the play-offs when they face struggling Whitchurch United at Smallbrook Stadium tonight.

Both games kick off at 7.45pm.

Great escape heroes East Cowes Vics will aim to end the season on a high with a win in their final home game against mid-table Verwood Town.

Kick-off at Beatrice Avenue is 8pm.
