NEWPORT kept their title charge on track this afternoon (Saturday), thrashing a visiting Amesbury Town at Smallbrooke Stadium.

East Cowes Vics’ clash against Andover New Street, meanwhile, was postponed, which means Newport will have to wait to find out exactly how much ground they have made on the league leaders.

In Wessex League Division One, Newport made short work of Amesbury Town, putting five goals past the visitors.

Ji Nash netted a hattrick before the break, and Jordan Brown and Joe Butcher applied some gloss to the scoreline.

Cowes Sports, meanwhile, were comprehensively beaten by a travelling Baffins Milton Rovers in the Wessex Premier Division.

The Yachtsmen found themselves trailing inside the opening ten minutes and failed to restore parity ahead of the break.

Seven minutes into the second half and the visitors were two goals to the good, and stretched that lead to three minutes thereafter.

The result sees the Islanders just five points above the drop zone, having played four more games than 19th place Pagham.

Cowes Sports have not won a league game since February 21, and will need to rally ahead of a tricky trip to Christchurch next weekend.
