Cowes Sports took another step towards safety and Newport FC continued their impressive promotion push, in what was a good night for the Isle of Wight's Wessex League teams.

A 4-1 home win against Blackfield and Langley ensured the Yachtsmen leapfrogged their opponents in the Premier Division.

The win moves them up two places in the table, to 15th.

A goal from Harrison Catania in the first minute of the game got Max Draper's men off to a flying start.

And it didn't take long for Mark Taylor to add a second in the 14th minute, ensuring a 2-nil lead going into the break.

Blackfield and Langley struck back in the second half, but two goals from captain John McKie saw the Yachtsmen through.

In Division One, Newport FC were hoping to retain their place at the top of the table going into their game against Romsey Town.

The Port took the lead in the 39th minute after a freekick was turned in by Jordan Browne.

Romsey picked things up in the second-half, forcing a couple of good stops from goalkeeper Leon Pitman.

However, they were unable to find the back of the net meaning Newport stay top.

Final score: Newport 1-0 Romsey.
