RESURGENT East Cowes Vics will have revenge first and foremost in their mind when they travel to Fawley in Division 1 of the Wessex League this evening (Wednesday).

On December 6, the day before Vics manager Alex Smith took over the hot seat, he sat uncomfortably in the stand at Beatrice Avenue on a chilly Tuesday evening and watched Vics get humiliated 7-1 by Fawley.

Richie Woodburn was sacked and Smith had to sit through another humiliation, a 2-1 loss at home to rock bottom Fleet Spurs.

But that result sparked a turning point for Vics, who have gone on an amazing run of seven games unbeaten ever since, with the meanest defence — four conceded and three clean sheets on the bounce — in the division.

Fifteen points from those seven games is a very tidy sum in a relegation battle.

Smith said in a recent radio interview: "Back in December I watched the team lose 7-1 at home to Fawley. The lads did all they could, but I thought they just needed a little bit of help — some structure and guidance."

Vics, climbing the table, but by no means out of relegation trouble, now sit a place and a point below Fawley, with the chance to leapfrog them and take another step away from trouble.

Interestingly, Fawley lost to relegation certs Fleet Spurs 2-1 on Saturday.

Vics, brimming with new found confidence, will no doubt view this evening's six-pointer as a golden opportunity to keep their run going.

Kick-off 7.45pm.
