ALL three of our Isle of Wight Wessex League sides were in action this afternoon (Saturday), with one win, one draw and one loss.

Cowes Sports 0-5 Horndean

The Yachtsmen went one down 25 minutes in, after two Horndean players combined before playing a cross and finding Zack Willet at the back post, who smashed it home.

Just one minute later, Willet found the net again for the visitors after another cross found the striker.

Cowes went into half time two-nil down, aiming to come out for the second much stronger.

However, moments after the whistle, Horndean found a third with a close-range finish by Connor Duffin.

A few minutes later, a Duffin was brought down in the box, and Willet converted to put the visitors four up within 50 minutes.

Cowes kept it at just four until dying embers, as a Horndean cross found Rudi Blankson, who buried it bottom right.

The Island side remain above the Premier Division dropzone and will look to bounce back in midweek at home to Blackfield and Langley, one place above.

Whitchurch United 0-1 East Cowes Vics

Another massive three points for Vics, who move to seven undefeated under boss Alex Smith, despite late Whitchurch pressure.

The first big chance for Vics came in the 20th when Thomas Ashley went through on goal but saw his shot saved by the feet of the keeper.

Whitchurch found themselves down to ten just before half time, after defender Chris Morris’ attempted last-man challenge saw him receive red.

From the free kick, just outside the penalty area, Harry TAYLOR struck with power low to the keeper’s left to put Vics ahead going into the break.

The home side gave it their best to get back into the game after half time, but the visitors did well to stay on top, dropping deep through most parts of the second half.

Up next, Vics will seek to keep their incredible run going as they head across the Solent to 14th place Fawley AFC, one place and one point above them, on Wednesday evening (February 22).

Newport 1-1 Millbrook

The game started back and forth, with both sides having chances at goal, and the Island side thought they had found the breakthrough just before the 25th-minute mark.

Port had put the ball in the back of the net, only to realise the flag had been raised for offside.

The home side thought they had done it again in the 35th after a freekick was whipped in, but the header flew just over the crossbar.

Just before half time, the visitors took the lead through Mark Barker.

Newport eventually found the leveller, but left it late, as Scott BARON brought the game level in added time, with the last touch of the game.

Port go top of Division 1, one point clear of Petersfield, who put three past former leaders New Milton today, with a game in hand.

Looking ahead, Newport will face 13th-place Romsey Town back at Smallbrook on Tuesday evening (February 21).
