FOLLOWING a series of late pitch inspections, most football matches on the Isle of Wight will go ahead this afternoon (Saturday).

The Wessex Premier League fixture between Cowes Sports and Fareham Town will go ahead as planned at 3pm.

The game was given the green light following a pitch inspection at Westwood Park at 11.30am — the second this morning.

The Yachtsmen will fancy their chances of getting a vital result against mid-table Fareham, who have poor on the road this season.

In Division 1 of the Wessex League, the East Cowes Vics match against Hamworthy Recreation is also on, after the Beatrice Avenue pitch was deemed playable after a lengthy inspection.

Kick off 3pm.

However, the top of the table clash between Andover New Street and Newport was called off due to a frozen pitch.

In Division 1 of the Island League, the Brading Town v Shanklin game is off due to a waterlogged pitch, but second placed Whitecroft and Barton Sports, who host Oakfield at Sandy Lane, is on, with the home side going top with just a point.

Meanwhile, in Division 2, the promotion battle between league leaders Ventnor and thid placed Niton Community is off due to a frozen pitch.

The fourth round Hampshire FA Saturday Vase tie between Silchester Village and Division 2 side Carisbrooke United is on.
