FANS OF Newport Football Club wondering when long overdue work will start on their new stadium — let alone move into it — will be hoping to get concrete answers at an open meeting at the Castle Inn, Newport, this evening (Monday).

Tony Wake, of South Coast Leisure, who is leading the project, will be providing an overview of its progress at proposed new home, the Racecourse, Whippingham, and respond to comments and questions from the floor.

Mr Wake will also discuss how the club will function at the Racecourse once it has moved in.

Back in July, he told the County Press the club was working hard behind the scenes to get the work started, but progress was slow.

The WightFibre-sponsored stadium is designed to get maximum community use out of its top-class facilities, to include a grandstand, clubhouse and new 3G all-weather pitch, which would enable Newport to play up to Southern Football League level.

Last summer, Mr Wake said: “We’re working extremely hard to get this project over the line. No one wants that more than me.

"I’m the bloke who wants it done, so we can provide a great new site for club and community use."

Anyone wishing to attend this evening will need to be at the Castle Inn at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.
