COWES Sports faced high-flying Hamble in the Wessex Premier at Westwood Park this evening (Tuesday, November 22).

The away side, who sit in fourth, has an excellent away record this season, with five wins from seven fixtures on the road.

Hamble have also won their last two, with an aggregate of ten goals, meanwhile, The Yachtsmen, two spots above the drop zone, have scored just 16 all season.

The game got off to a slow start, with no clear chances in 20 minutes and neither keeper having to make a save.

Hamble keeper Harry Newman had to make his first save of the game 33 minutes in, as Cowes' Aedan Coode fired from just inside the box.

Another chance from Finley Phillips, 20 yards out, forced another save from the Hamble number one.

A long ball out from Hamble found its way into The Yachtsmen’s penalty area, and a shot from the Hamble striker was saved well by Ed Hatt, who saw the ball cleared away to safety.

Moments before halftime, a cross from Phillips almost deflected into the path of Jez Conway right in front of the goal, but he could not quite reach it.

The first goal went to the visitors after Hatt spilled the ball into Hamble’s Will Gange just before the 70-minute mark.

Just three minutes later, Cowes defender Jimmy Mumford made a great run down the middle of the park and played the ball to his left into CONWAY, who beat the keeper from just inside the box.

Cowes looked the most likely to take all three points in the final 15 minutes, pushing hard and creating some good chances, but Hamble held on well to secure a point.

The Yachtsmen remain 17th and look forward to facing second from bottom Pagham at Westwood Park on Saturday (November 26).
