Round the Island Race 2022 hits the water off the Isle of Wight tomorrow (Saturday).

Organised by the Island Sailing Club (ISC), it regularly attracts more than 1,500 boats and thousands of sailors.

It is unique because it sees amateur and professional sailors go bow-to-bow and boats of all sizes and shapes compete.

As the Isle of Wight County Press previously reported, entries for this year opened in January.

Among those taking part is Dame Ellen MacArthur, who will sail alongside young people  supported by her cancer charity.

The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust has been the official charity of the event since
2005, raising more than £308,270 to date to help inspire young people aged eight to 24 years "to believe in a brighter future living through — and beyond — cancer."

To support the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust in this year’s Round the Island Race:

The Round the Island Race continues to live up to its reputation as a ‘race for all’ – welcoming sailors from all over the world, with professionals, keen amateurs, families, and first-time racers competing on the same racecourse.

In 2021, its 90th, organisers welcomed over 1,200 boats and 8,000 competitors.

This year, it will set off from the Cowes start line early on Saturday (June 24).

A weather briefing was streamed at 5pm this evening...
