YOUNG sailors were able to demonstrate what they have learned on the water at Gurnard Sailing Club’s annual Junior Regatta.

Three racing groups were scheduled across the day to reduce the number of sailors participating at any one time, due to Covid-19.

Four races were held for each class, with one result discarded.

First out were the Optimist and the Tera fleets who, in fresh conditions, enjoyed a combination of guidance and racing.

Cassius Day won his battle with Will Haines in the Optimist class, while Rafferty Moore enjoyed a clean sweep of wins in the Tera class.

Competition among the 12-strong Tera was fierce, with Will Bradley opening with two firsts, but in a building breeze, Fred Salter matched him in the final two races — snatching the series win by the narrowest of margins.

The Laser 4.7, Radial and Pico fleets concluded the day’s racing, with 11 boats competing — Thomas Leather cruising to victory in the Picos, while Salter’s superior boat speed took the Laser Radials group.

Molly Nutter came first in the Laser 4.7 section — doing a good job of staying in touch with the Radials.
