COWES SPORTS 0, WESTON-SUPER-MARE 5

IT WAS an evening of disappointment for Cowes Sports after they were taught a footballing lesson in the first round qualifying of the Emirates FA Cup last night (Tuesday).

Up against a quality side, who were playing National League South football a couple of years ago, the Yachtsmen were on their best FA Cup run in a decade and were dreaming of extending it in front of 300 fans at Westwood Park — an attendance which would have been higher had there not been restrictions on numbers in place due to Covid-19.

After an even start to the game, the Somerset side gave Cowes keeper Ed Hatt his first test on 20 minutes — a great save from a corner.

Weston-super-Mare took the lead on 37 minutes, but doubled it four minutes later to lead 2-0 at the interval.

At a time when the Yachtsmen needed to stay in the game, the third came on 52 minutes — a killer goal Cowes were not going to come back from against a well organised side.

The fourth came five minutes later and the fifth followed on 71 minutes.
