THE Isle of Wight's leading football club, Cowes Sports, have made two more shrewd signings during their enforced pre-season to boost their midfield options.

The Yachtsmen, managed by Max Draper, have already signed reliable Newport first team regular, Lewis Wright, and secured the return of fans' favourites — defender, Callum Chase, and striker, John McKie.

The addition of key midfielders Alex Wright from Whitecroft and Barton Sports and Aaron Burford, from Brading Town, has certainly added more creativity to a struggling Cowes side.

The Yachtsmen, who had a poor season down at the bottom end of the Sydenhams Wessex Premier League, before lockdown spared them almost certain relegation last season, have regrouped and made signings in key areas of the team.

Wright missed most of last season through injury at a time when he was in great form in a successful W&B side, which was poised to win back-to-back Island League Division 1 titles for a sixth season — until coronavirus struck.

Burford, on the other hand, was a mainstay in the Brading side and had a magnificent season for the Romans — helping them make the final of the Hampshire Intermediate Cup, which is yet to be played, and the only credible challengers to W&B's title crown.

Cowes boss, Max Draper, said: "We are delighted to have Alex and Aaron on board for the new season.

"We are already seeing what Aaron has to offer in training. After a great cameo performance last year, we had to get him in.

"Alex is another fantastic addition, who will bring creativity, an eye for a pass and a few long-range bullets — and tap ins."
