ISLE of Wight skeleton sensation Kim Murray — fresh from breaking a track record in Austria — was in the United States continuing her fine form, winning gold at the Inter-Continental Cup (ICC).
The 31-year-old Islander followed up her fifth-place finish in the fifth race of the competition on Thursday last week (23) to claim her first ICC victory — a milestone in her fast-developing career as a 'slider'.
Kim, of Binstead, finished joint first with American racer, Katie Uhlaender, in Lake Placid on Friday (24), after posting a superb time of 1min 50.17secs.
Taking gold — coupled with her new-found form, following a poor start, by her own admission, to the skeleton season — has put her in the frame for a possible dream place in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics team.
It follows a great week for the former long jumper who, in Igls, Innsburck, broke a track record on her way to a top eight finish in the women’s World Cup skeleton.
“I said I wanted to better my fifth place — I knew I had it in me," said Kim.
"It just needed to come together. I am so glad it did."
