THE cooler weather on Sunday made for better times from runners this year in the Brading 10k race.

Jo Wade, of the Isle of Wight Athletic Club, did it in 32.30 — nearly a minute faster than last year’s winning time, and two and half minutes ahead of the runner-up.

The race, hosted by Ryde Harriers, was held over a course which cut out Beaper Shute — a route that proved to be a popular one.

The fastest Ryde Harrier was Jake Brougham, who improved on his third place of last year — and time — to finish the race in 34.59, almost two minutes better.

Brougham, 25, runs the RMA Sports Injury Clinic in Newport.

The third placed finisher was last year’s Isle of Wight Marathon winner, Gary Marshall, of the Wootton Bridge Runners, with a time of 35.08.

Elder statesman Pete Young, of Ryde Harriers, was the first Vet70 home.

In the team event, the Isle of Wight Road Runners team of Hayley Baxter, Polly Segar and Wilmott won the women’s section, while Dave Hunt, Brougham and Joe Evans-Murray, of Ryde Harriers, won the men’s prize.

This year, 139 finished the race, with some coming from as far afield as London and one from Indonesia.
