MORE than 100 girls and as many parents descended on Watcombe Bottom in Ventnor for the latest Isle of Wight Girls’ League Tournament.

Hosted by Rew Valley Football Club and run by Mark Powell, the event featured games in the under-nine, under-11 and under-13 age groups.

In addition to Rew Valley’s sides, there was representation from Oakfield, Brading, Newport and Vectis Youth football clubs.

The morning’s action also included Hampshire U14 Girls’ League action, with Rew Valley taking on Farnham Town.

Rew Valley collected another three points in a dominant performance.

After a competitive opening ten minutes, Rew Valley opened the scoring with a well taken finish by Callie Jacobs, who attends Christ the King College.

After rattling the crossbar and post, Jess Lucas bagged her tenth goal of the season.

The second half followed much the same pattern as the first, with Rew Valley dominating possession.

Rew Valley skipper Mya Jones led from the front, scoring two minutes after the half-time interval to put the hosts in a dominant position at 3-0.

A quickfire brace from Annie Davies in the 53rd and 57th minutes made the game safe.

To put the icing on the cake, Lauren Lucas made it 6-0 with a fantastic finish.

Rew Valley manager, Conner Knight, said: “It was a controlled performance from a very talented and cohesive U14 team and it’s fantastic to see the growth of girls’ football on the Island.”
