THREE young Islanders earned podium places in the Portsmouth Duathlon — despite giving up more than six years on their contemporaries.
Isle of Wight Triathlon Club members Gethin Hepworth, Millie Williams and Lottie-Rose Van der Helstraete took part in their first-ever open road multi-discipline event, with Gethin the first U18 male and Millie, first female, with Lottie-Rose finishing second.
One of their coaches, Simon Pilcher finished fourth in 1.02.26, missing out on third by 0.03 of a second.
Julie Van der Helstraete, in a team with Rob Holbrook, came second, and John Hepworth, Gethin's dad, finished in the top half.
