SHANKLIN Sandown Rowing Club hosted the seventh annual Isle of Wight Rowing Forum Junior Indoor Rowing Competition, at their clubhouse on Sunday.

The event, open to any junior or under-18 members from the Island’s three rowing clubs (Ryde, Shanklin Sandown and Newport), together with the Ryde School Boat Club, featured representatives of all four clubs.

The competition, which featured 20 junior oarsman, was split into two stages, in line with British Rowing’s guidelines and as used at the National Junior Indoor Rowing competition, at which many Island rowers will compete early next year.

All juniors were divided into boys and girls, in relevant age groups, and competed as individuals over a distance rowed in a fixed time, with medals awarded for the top three places.

After it finished, a relay was held over 3,000m, in teams of six, drawn from the hat from all four clubs, to round off a great day’s competition.
