Shanklin 2, Whitecroft and Barton Sports 2 (W & B won 6-5 on penalties)

THERE was heartbreak for Shanklin in last night’s County Press-sponsored Isle of Wight Challenge Cup final.

Holders Whitecroft and Barton Sports (W & B) came from behind twice to win it on penalties at a rain-lashed Westwood Park in Cowes on Friday.

Iain Seabrook put the Seasiders ahead with a low free kick in the first half, but Sam Yelland curled a beauty into the far corner to level things before Phil McDonald again put Shanklin on top.

Substitute and man of the match, Freddy Knowles, fired home from 20 yards for W & B in the second period to take the tie to penalties.

But after it went to sudden death, McDonald was the unlucky man whose penalty was saved by Kev Mitchell.
