RETIRED former hotelier and beach cafe owner, Marie Rosina Read, has died at the Orchard House Care Home, Newport.
She was 95 and the widow of Don Read, who died nearly 22 years ago.
Born in London, she lived in Essex, where she ran a cafe with her husband in Harold Wood, London, before moving to the Island in 1968.
They took over the Hillside Hotel, Ventnor, which they ran for 12 years.
They then ran the Southcliff bed and breakfast in Niton, and after that the Beach Cafe in Whitecliff Bay, Bembridge.
Mrs Read retired to Lake in 1990 and had been a care home resident for three years, the majority of that time at the Byrnhill residential care home in Ventnor.
She leaves six daughters and a son, 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
The funeral service takes place at the IW Crematorium at Whippingham on Thurs-day at 12.45pm.
