Tony Cottee has made his first signing since becoming Barnet's player-manager in November, with left wing-back Lee Flynn, 27, joining from Nationwide Conference Hayes for £13,500.
Flynn, on a three-year contract, is in the starting line-up for Saturday's home league game with York City.
Said Cottee: "Lee is a very experienced player, having made over 200 appearances for Hayes after joining in 1995.
"He'll give the team a more balanced look."
York's visit is the first of three home games out of the next four fixtures for Barnet, beaten in five of their last six league matches.
"We need to do well in those games, including Brighton (away), Hartlepool and Chesterfield, to get closer to the play-off contenders," said Cottee.
Barnet lost 1-0 at York in August but their recent home form has been good with four wins in the last five league games.
York, lying 19th, have taken only eight points from their 12 away matches.
