Wingate & Finchley 2

Tooting and Mitcham 1

Ryman League Division Two

Though Wingate and Finchley were already relegated, Steve Forwell's first goals for the club, including a 25-yard pile-driver, ensured that they signed off with a well-deserved win on Saturday.

In the 38th minute, Andy Myers tapped the ball back from a free kick, and Forwell's long range shot flew into the net.

Tooting equalised in the 78th minute when Ricardo Bhola took full advantage of slack marking to score from seven yards, giving Michael Kalli no chance.

Two minutes later, Wingate clinched victory when substitute Robert Donn swung the ball across to Dean Nyman, who glanced it on for Forwell to round the keeper.

A nice finish to the season for Wingate and Finchley, who had started well after gaining promotion with five wins and two draws in their first seven league games, before their fortunes declined drastically.

They'll be eager to start well again in August in their bid for a quick return to Division Two.

WINGATE & FINCHLEY: Kali, Brill (Donn), Piler, Berg (Becker, 18), Fisk, Greenstreet, Forwell, Brackley, Sawyer (Nyman, 66), Myers, Baum.
