AN ISLE of Wight musician has notched up more than 100,000 online hits for his social media lockdown offerings - including from the USA and Australia!

Folk singer Steve Love has taken to Facebook to stream and record a series of tracks about the ups, downs and quirks of Island life.

He said: "Each weekend I have knocked up a new song taking a poke at some aspect of the lockdown and put a video to it on my Steve Loves IOW Facebook page. Views have come from all over the world, including America and Australia.

"In addition, at the height of lockdown I put on two ‘from the front garden’ concerts, which were well attended by neighbours from a safe distance, though to be fair there wasn’t anywhere else they could go!"

Steve has now set up a weekly open mic night on Zoom, where people can sign in from home, enjoy a beverage and sing or play live as part of a supportive group with a pub theme.

Steve has also used the time inside to complete work on a mammoth 20-track collection of songs, now available to purchase on CD.

He added: "The album is called Isle of Wight Girl after the title track — the song people most often request from me. There are another nineteen upbeat songs about coffee shops, Mermaid Gin, potholes, old hippies, festivals, trains, ferries and all the other things that make up Island life.

"Even the County Press gets a mention in one of them — positive of course!"
