Ventnor Arts Club is screening several top productions this week, with doors opening at 7pm.

On Tuesday, it is screening Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake, best known for replacing the female corps-de-ballet with a menacing male ensemble, shattering conventions and turning tradition upside down.

Live from Sadler’s Wells, London, the production has been described as a passionate and contemporary Swan Lake for our times.

Wednesday will see the special screening of Down to Earth.

The film – a mirror to humanity, and a poignant and timely reflection on our civilised world – looks to inspire people to be the change they want to see and invites viewers to see the world through the eyes of the Keepers of the Earth.

On Thursday and Friday, a screening of critically acclaimed The Favourite is being shown, starring Oscar winner Olivia Colman.

Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos – the film is a story of a frail Queen Anne occupying the throne, her close friend Lady Anne governing the country in her stead, and her new servant – played by Emma Stone – whose doe-eyed charm endears her to Sarah.

Over at Ryde Academy on Monday (20), Ryde Film Club will be screening 1946 classic, A Matter of Life and Death by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. The film – following a British wartime aviator who cheats death but must argue for his life before a celestial court – begins at 7.45pm.

With themes of romance, the pangs of loss, the hope of survival and the longing for life, the film has it all.
