A TRIBUTE to the songbird Eva Cassidy is returning to Ventnor Arts Club.

Elsa Jean McTaggart is coming down from Scotland and bringing the blues, her fiddle, her own material and a smattering of familiar songs.

With a velvet voice and rich sultry tones, Elsa weaves a colourful tapestry of vivid anecdotes from her unusual past and life on the road.

Think contemporary folk sprinkled with bluesy jazz, topped with unexpected improvisations, including dynamic jigs and reels to wildly haunting Celtic airs on the fiddle, penny whistle and button box.

Stephen Izatt, of Ventnor Arts Club, said: "Not only a passionate and masterful musician, Elsa is chatty, funny and engagingly entertaining. She plays with poetic fluency and strikes an easy rapport with the audience."

Elsa Jean McTaggart — Blues Singing Girl is on Friday, May 10, at 8pm.
