Northwood 2

Harlow Town 1

(Ryman League Division One)

THE introduction of new signing Corey Browne, an experienced forward with four England semi-pro caps, was not enough to stop Harlow falling to a 2-1 defeat against a team who denied them space and played an efficient off side trap.

Northwood took the lead in the 11th minute when a free-kick from outside the area was cleared by Harlow only as far as Northwood's Wayne Carter who fired home from 25 yards.

Despite a good chance for Browne and a having a good penalty claim denied, Harlow went in at half time the weaker of the two teams.

Things got worse for Harlow on 70 minutes when Andy Cooke nodded a cross down for Carter to volley home his, and Northwood's, second goal.

Northwood captain Cgris Gell was sent off in the 72 minute and three minutes later Harlow capitalised when Danny Cowley fired home from close range.

But despite their pressure Harlow could not find an equaliser.

There was good news for Harlow last week when they saw off Witham Town 7-2 in an FA Cup qualifing replay. This Saturday Town travel to Boreham Wood in the second round of FA Cup qualifying. Should a replay be needed it will br at the Sportscentre on Wednesday, October 3.
