An Isle of Wight woman dragged her victim by her hair onto the street in a 'nasty and sustained' attack.

Becky Sullivan-Kearns, 22, of Slade Road in Ryde, appeared at the IW Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, September 28.

She admitted two counts of assault on June 19.

Prosecuting, Liz Miller told the bench Sullivan-Kearns shouted at her victim on Union Street, challenging them to fight her.

Sullivan-Kearns then went into a shop, grabbed the victim by her hair and dragged her out onto the street.

Court heard the defendant's fingers were 'totally entwined' in the victim's hair.

The victim felt punches to the top half of her face, Ms Miller said.

The victim ran back into the shop, but Sullivan-Kearns followed her and grabbed her again.

Members of the public offered to help the victim during the assault, but court heard the defendant 'gouged' the fingers of someone who attempted to assist.

Defending, Eva Ford said there had 'clearly been something going on' for Sullivan-Kearns and asked the bench to order a pre-sentence report.

Presiding magistrate Andre Usborne called the assault 'particularly nasty and sustained'.

Magistrates adjourned the case for sentencing on November 20 and granted conditional bail.
