Two Isle of Wight women arrested on suspicion of arson

Two Isle of Wight women have been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life following a fire in East Cowes.

At around 8.30pm last night (Friday), a single fire crew from Ryde was called to a small fire involving an item of clothing at a home on York Avenue.

The fire was extinguished using buckets of water before firefighters ventilated the property. 

Shortly before 9pm, police were alerted, and two women were subsequently arrested as part of their investigation.

A 44-year-old from East Cowes and 46-year-old from Sandown were both arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

Both women remain in custody at this time while enquiries are ongoing.

No damage or injuries were reported during the incident.
