Island Free School’s Year 11 pupils swapped exam papers for sequins and suits as they marked the end of their GCSE journey with a glittering prom at Quay Arts in Newport.

Arriving on Saturday, June 27, students from the 2021 cohort arrived in everything from classic cars to sleek modern saloons, and even a vintage tractor.
Inside, the terrace and prom entrance were dressed with black, white, and gold balloons, draped fabric, and "Congratulations" banners, creating a party atmosphere for the cohort’s final evening together as a year group.

Parents and carers joined students at the start of the evening for drinks and pictures before leaving Year 11 to enjoy music, dancing, and a candy buffet laid out on Quay Arts’ terrace.
The prom rounded off a fortnight of goodbyes for Island Free School’s leavers, who earlier in June had taken part in a special ceremony at school, a "walk of fame" through the site, and a leavers’ BBQ and rounders match at Rew Valley to celebrate five years together.
Staff paid tribute to Year 11’s resilience after beginning their secondary education during the Covid pandemic and wished them well as they move on to sixth form, college, apprenticeships, and other next steps in September.
