The UK Health and Security Agency (UKHSA) and Met Office have issued a yellow heat health warning on the Isle of Wight.

The alert came into place at 4pm today (Thursday, May 28) and will remain until 8pm on Saturday, May 30.

The warning, of high likelihood and low impact, highlights the increased risk to life of vulnerable people, the potential heat of indoor environments and additional pressure on healthcare services.

The UKHSA said water-related incidents may increase, including risk from cold-water shock and drowning.

NHS guidance says to keep out of the heat if possible, wear sunscreen and cool down through cold food and drinks.

Additional recommendations include staying in the shade, wearing a sunhat if outdoors and avoiding alcohol and caffeine.

The Isle of Wight Council said to check in on elderly, isolated, ill or very young individuals and ensure they are staying cool and hydrated.

A heat health warning had been in place from Friday, May 22 to Wednesday, May 27.
