An Isle of Wight town has been ranked as the sunniest place to live in the UK, according to new research.
Shanklin topped the list based on the average hours of sunlight per month.
This was revealed as part of the Sun Report, which was created by MG Timber and Online Marketing Surgery.
They used data from the Met Office, analysing climate stations' average hours of sunlight for all 12 months of the year from 1991 to 2020.
After that, they worked out the overall average of all hours of sunlight across the 12 months and ranked areas based on this.
The UK's top 10 sunniest places
According to the research from MG Timber and Online Marketing Surgery, the top 10 sunniest places in the UK are:
- Shanklin, Isle of Wight - 164.67 average hours of sunlight per month
- Folkestone, Kent - 160.96
- Bognor Regis, West Sussex - 159.88
- Hastings, East Sussex - 159.52
- Weymouth, Wyke Regis, Dorset - 158.70
- Eastbourne, East Sussex - 157.65
- Shoeburyness, Essex - 157.03
- Manston, Kent - 153.84
- Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex - 152
- Isle Of Portland, Dorset - 151.88
Discussing Shanklin's placement, Online Marketing Surgery said: “There’s no surprise Shanklin took the top spot as the UK’s sunniest area.
“Its coastal location and mild microclimate mean it enjoys more sunshine than much of the country, making it a real favourite for people looking to make the most of the British seaside.

Shanklin is considered to be a traditional holiday destination, with Visit Isle of Wight describing it as the "epitome of the British beach resort".
It adds: "But Shanklin these days is so much more than that.
