COWES has been named one of the best seaside towns to visit in the UK.

Time Out's online magazine included the harbour town in eighth spot, on a new list of best seaside towns in the UK to visit this year.

This makes Cowes the only Isle of Wight location to feature in the list.

Celebrated for its vibrant sailing community, the town is recognised as a global hub for yachting and hosts the renowned Cowes Week regatta.

A lively seaside town, Cowes offers a largely pedestrian High Street packed with independent boutiques, delicatessens and characterful pubs.

Visitors can also enjoy scenic waterfront walks and museums with a maritime theme.

Regular ferries to and from Southampton further enhances Cowes's appeal as a convenient short-break destination.

Cowes was praised for its collection of indie shops, grand promenade, sandy beach and warmer-than-average temperatures.

Oban in Scotland, known for its lively atmosphere, top seafood and fine cluster of pubs, was just pipped by Cowes.

The number one spot was claimed by the village of Saundersfoot on the southwest coast of Wales, one of three Welsh towns to make it onto the list.

Portrush in Northern Ireland, home to one of the world's leading links golf courses, edged out Cowes to take the seventh spot.

Time Out's list encompasses a diverse range of destinations, from traditional resorts filled with arcades, such as Blackpool, to quaint villages with pristine sands and rich wildlife.
