A fire has destroyed a vehicle and spread to a property and nearby trees on the Isle of Wight this evening (Monday, May 11).

Hampshire and IW Fire and Rescue Service were alerted at around 8pm to the incident at a property on Berrylands, off Heathfield Road, in Bembridge.
Significant smoke could be seen rising above properties in the area.

Crews from Sandown, Shanklin and Ryde were sent to the scene, where the fire is believed to have started in a vehicle on a driveway.
A fire service spokesperson told the County Press the flames quickly spread from the vehicle to the property itself, as well as to nearby trees and fence posts.
The vehicle has been completely destroyed.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus remain at the scene, working to dampen down remaining hotspots using hose reels and jets.
UPDATE: Crews from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) are now on Heathfield Road, and have started to dig up the road.

Earlier this evening, four fire engines from Newport, Cowes and Ryde were sent to Newport Tyres on Riverway in Newport.
A blaze involving a van inside the workshop garage has now been put out by firefighters.
Riverway was closed in both directions whilst emergency teams dealt with the incident, but has since reopened.
