The Isle of Wight will feature in a Channel 4 series tonight (Thursday) – taking centre stage in popular comedian Paul Merton’s new show.
Arriving at Ryde on Wightlink’s FastCat, Paul has followed one of the UK’s most unique rail journeys, stepping straight from train to ferry before heading on to explore the Isle of Wight’s rich railway heritage.
On the Island, Paul follows in the footsteps of his tube driver father, riding up front on former London Underground Northern line trains now in service on the Island.
His visit also sees him take the controls of a heritage steam train, experience life on a working farm, and uncover the Island’s hidden role in preparations for D-Day.

The episode of Paul Merton: Driving Amazing Trains airs on Channel 4 tonight, between 8pm and 9pm.
During his FastCat crossing, Wightlink passengers were surprised with a live welcome announcement from Paul from the bridge, alongside Captain Parahovniks.
