The Isle of Wight Met Service has issued a weather warning for heavy, persistent rain – with up to 40mm of rainfall possible in a few areas.
The warning, which was issued this morning, comes into effect at 2pm tomorrow (Wednesday) and runs until 11pm.
A large area of persistent, heavy rain is expected to move in from the south, lasting into the night.
The IW Met Service understands rainfall totals will vary depending on location, but some spots may see 20-30mm falling over the course of a few hours, with one or two locations seeing as high as 40mm.
Local forecaster, Jamie Russell, says: “There are elements of uncertainty with this warning, as we may see the focus of the rain shift east and north somewhat quicker than the latest data suggests.
“We will update if this looks likely.”
The Met Office has since issued its own weather warning, which goes live at 6am on Wednesday and runs until 8am on Thursday.
The national forecaster says spells of heavy rain could lead to some flooding and disruption to travel.
