An upcoming lecture will shine a light on William Hogarth and the rise of the English national identity.
Organised by The Arts Society, Isle of Wight, the event will take place at 2pm on Tuesday, February 3 at Northwood House, focusing on the life and impact of the influential 18th-century artist.
The unique appeal of William Hogarth's artwork is his engagement with political and social issues.

Known for his refusal to flatter portrait sitters, Hogarth carved his niche by integrating English identity into his art, creating vibrant stereotypes of "being English" that resonate today.
According to the Arts Society, by promoting British artists, he also "helped a younger generation of English artists achieve greater successes than had been seen before."
The lecture will be led by the art historian and guide, Sarah Ciacci.
Ciacci, whose expertise lies in late 19th-century French and 20th-century art, promises to bring not only scholarly insight but also a breadth of practical experience from her time as a Blue Badge Guide in London.
Visitors can attend the lecture in person or participate via Zoom for a fee of £10 per person, which must be booked in advance via The Arts Society, Isle of Wight, website.
