An Openreach spokesperson said: “We detected a problem with one of our green roadside cabinets that provides broadband to homes in the Newport area.
"A safety device which monitors electrical circuits inside the cabinet is faulty, which meant the power to the cabinet had to be switched off for safety reasons.
"Our engineers are currently working to replace it so power can be restored as soon as possible.”
